Don't forget to bring your shoes and tights to sign off on Thursday - today.  We would like everyone to have everyone be signed off tomorrow.

Pass out candles on Saturday?

I just got this from Alesha Arp, who is heading the entertainment for Relay for Life.

I would LOVE it if those girls who can stay for the Luminaria ceremony will help pass out the candles. They can follow my daughter's lead. Just have them meet stage side (I don't know which - left or right - until I see my set up that morning - but I can tell them before they go on) after their performance.

I know it is late for some of our young girls but I thought most of the older girls would love this.  

Please let me know if you want to stay to help pass out candles.  Each candle stands for someone that is being honored through the American Cancer Society.

Thursday Mandatory

Thursday is mandatory for all that are performing on Saturday.  Some moms were confused about my other post saying that some did not need to come. 

If you are performing Saturday, we need to see you on Thursday.  Pre-Glee, Glee Girls, GG+ and Glee Team. 

4th grade and up: Bring something to keep you quiet

Bring something to keep you daughter entertained on Thursday.  Not all the girls are in every song so there will be a lot of waiting for many of the girls.   A book,  homework, Suduku, or a quiet video game will be ideal.

Remember Saturday you need to drop your girls off at Glee at 6pm and then pick them up at 7:30pm to drive them to Relay for Life.  Call time there is at 8pm.  Performance 8:30-9:00pm.

Saturday 6pm Call Time / Pre-Glee 7:15

This Saturday is Relay for Life.

As listed on the calendar attached to the blog call time for this Saturday is:

6:00 pm for 4th grade and up at Glee (We would like to do 2 run-throughs) Bring something quiet to do.

7:15 pm for 3rd grade and below at Glee to join big girls.

7:30 pm We will drive over to RSM to the Bell Tower. You will need to provide transportation.  For liability we can't drive anyone.  We have lots of moms from Portola so try to coordinate with someone.

When we arrive in RSM you will want to keep your bags in the car.  There won't be a safe place to keep any bags and we won't want you to have them on the stage.

8:00pm Call time to check in

8:30pm 1/2 hour show Glee Music Academy show

Come dressed in pink dresses, tights and black shoes.
Hair out of eyes - short bangs are fine.
Little bit of extra blush for those that don't wear make-up.

3rd grade and under: Thursday 3:30pm

Due to the performance this Saturday,  Pre-Glee AND Glee Girls A will meet at 3:30 on Thursday.  This is the regular Pre-Glee time.  See you Thursday.

Please LISTEN to your CDs. This Saturday is the day we are singing the Light song from Tangled.

Everyone Monday and Thursday 4th grade and up

We are asking that everyone come that can both Monday and Thursday rehearsals this week in preparation for the Relay for Life concert on May 3rd.  Even if you are GG+ we would love for you to come to both.

Let us know if you can't make it.   Call time for Relay for Life is 6pm at Glee.  Then we drive over to RSM at 7:30pm.  The parents will need to drive from Glee to RSM.

Doors Open

The doors won't open until 4:45pm so that keep that in mind when planning your Saturday for the show.  Girls call time is 4:05pm.

There are 20 more tickets available for the show Saturday night.  If you have yet to get tickets, you can buy online through Saturday at 10am (today) and the rest are available at the door.  Please bring cash to the buy at the door.

All the dresses and shirts are in.  Try your dress and shirt on at the next rehearsal and then mark on the paper in your file that you received the dress and what size you ordered.

4th grade and up Sat 9-11am

Saturday's rehearsal from 9-11am is mandatory for Saturday night's show.   See you at 9am on Saturday.  4:05 call time for the show. See you then.

Saturday is the last day to pass of songs for the May 3rd Relay for Life show.  Pass off as many as you can.  The rest will count towards the May 24th show.

I need all parents to sign the clipboard on the table for that on Saturday.

Lake Forest Parade

I just wanted to let you know it looks like we will be able to participate in the Lake Forest parade on July 4th.   If you are in town we would love to have you participate.

All ages can participate.  We plan to wear our dresses.  Yipee!

Please SIGN Relay for Life - All ages

The Relay for Life Team has asked that we have everyone that performs or attends the Relay for Life event sign the registration form.  Parents and students. 

Please be sure to stop by and sign the registration soon.  Please include your student's number so we can easily see who we are missing. Your student will know their number if they are GG+ or Glee Team. 

We are giving Pre-Glee and Glee Girls Letters.  We will be adding these letters to the files on Thursdays.  Please look in the files for information on concerts and t-shirts.

Once you order the tickets you should soon after receive an email confirming your ticket confirmation with the email you used to order the tickets.

This is your ticket.  You print and bring to the concert this Saturday.

Tights and Shoes: All Ages

Pre-Glee, Glee Girls, Glee Girls Plus and Glee Team all need to start bringing in their thick tights and shoes they will be wearing for the May 3rd concert.   We need to check that everyone has them.

We would like everyone to have them purchased by this weekend.  If you didn't order the shoes already here are some suggestions.

1. Ask the store if they have the shoes at another store in Orange County. They might be able to deliver to a store near you.

Glee Team and GG+  If they are sold out of your size, you can do what it says above or buy black character shoes at a dance store.  I would start at Discount Dance Supply in Mission Viejo.  Just make sure they have black straps.  The stores can usually order special sizes for you.  Just ask how long it is to ship it to the store.

How to Memorize a Song

This is the best way to memorize a song AFTER listening to it many times on a CD. 

1. Start at the beginning with the song with only your part.  Then go until you make a mistake.

2. Look at the music and figure out how the last part you knew and the new part you didn't know connect.  Usually it is not the phrases themselves but the connection between the last part of the phrase and beginning of the next phrase that is the problem.

3. Start at the beginning again.  And repeat step 1 and 2.   Always start at the beginning and just add chunk after chunk.

4. Once you can consistently do it with the voice then repeat steps 1-3 with the minus with no words.


Please work on passing the new songs in this order:

1. I See the Light
2. I Believe I Can Fly
3. Circle of Life
4. Go the Distance


Please make sure you child has a simple way to listen to a CD in their room or bathroom.  CD players are quite cheap at Walmart.  CD Walkman's are usually still available.

Tennis Shoes - 4th grade and up

For this Saturday's concert just wear some comfortable tennis shoes.

Dress for Concert for Glee Team/Glee Girls Plus this Saturday

Dress for Saturday’s concert:  Glee t-shirt and pants.  Long jeans or black pants are great.  No holes please.   Call time is 4:10 pm to review choreography and music.  Arrive at 4:05 get 2 points, arrive at 4:10pm you get 1 point.  You will need to bring a book or something to keep you quiet and busy.  There will be a lot of waiting.   If you don’t buy a ticket your parents pick you up at 5:15pm.

Just a reminder that the tickets to see the Glee Team and Glee Girls Plus sing the opener at the Frozen Finalists concert are online.

They are $5 if you buy by next Wednesday.  You can buy your reserved tickets through our website.  It is NOT festival seating - you can actually pick your seat.

I can almost guarantee that we will sell out.  If your daughter wants to see the rest of the concert she also needs a ticket.

The soloists in the contest are the only one's that get a ticket.

Orange County Fair: still waiting

I talked with the Entertainment Coordinator today and they have yet to complete the schedule for performances.   We hope that Glee Music Academy will be on the schedule.

All ages will be welcome to perform at the Orange County Fair if we are chosen.   Glee Girls and above must have their songs passed off to perform.   Our date range is somewhere between July and August.

Saturday, April 26th - 4th grade and up perform.  I need volunteers for the following. They can be responsible students or parents.  They would need to arrive at 4:15 for training. 

2 ushers

2 box office table (ability to handle money and seating if seats are left)

2 help clean up and put away chairs. 

1 parent to be with the girls

Saturday, May 3rd - all girls perform (older girls must have their songs passed off)

2 parents to help with the girls being in the right place

1 parent to help entertain the pre-glee girls until it is time to go on.

Glee Girls Plus and Glee Team are performing Saturday, April 26th at 5pm.  They will be the opener for the show singing "When Can I See You Again?". 

All are welcome to attend the show even if you aren't performing.

CDs on my porch for 4th grade and up

I put the CDs of Go the Distance for all students 4th grade and up that were NOT at Saturday's rehearsal.  This is in a lower key.   After Spring Break - students will be expected to have all six songs passed off.  This is one of those songs - Go the Distance.

4th graders and up

Go the Distance in rehearsals has been challenging.  It is just too high for our singers.  I have lowered the minus, demo and the part CDs.  They sound a little weird but the notes are right.  We handed out CDs on Saturday, April 12th. 

If you don't attend Saturday, I can put a CD out on my porch at my home. 28532 Chimney Rock Circle, Portola Hills.  Just email me and I can put it out on my porch.  My father will be at my house but the rest of the family is leaving town Monday morning so please email me soon. 

Spring Break

Starting Monday April 14th, there will be no Glee practices, in honor of Spring Break.  Enjoy the time off and listen to your CDs.  We will be working on memorization during rehearsal on Saturday, April 12th.

GLEE TEAM / GG Plus

In a perfect world you will want to have "When Can I See you Again" passed off on Saturday, April 12th.  Monday, April 21st will be the last day to pass it off for the concert on Saturday, April 26th.

The next rehearsal after Spring Break is Monday, April 21st.

We would like pictures of each girl on the wall in time for the Frozen Finals concert on Saturday, March 26th.  If you would like your pictures taken, please tell us on Saturday we'll have the camera and card ready on Saturday. 

Signing Off Songs

If you haven't heard, we have a new face you'll see on Saturday.  Yllary is an opera major at Chapman and she will be helping us twice a week with passing off songs and running sectionals.  She loves working with kids and working at Glee is a dream job for her.   

Having her here will allow as many girls as possible to pass off songs. Just have your daughter sign up on the clipboard and we'll try to fit it all in. 

During Spring Break

You should be ready to pass off all your songs by the end of Spring Break.  I heard from one parent this morning that their daughter was singing all of her songs in the shower. 

This Saturday 9-11am

4th-12th grade:  This Saturday is rehearsal and with Spring Break next week we need it.  Hope to see you there at 9am on time.  Remember you get points for being on time.   Glee Team and GG Plus only.

We will be reviewing choreography for the show on Saturday, April 26th.  We will be singing, "When Can I See You Again?" at the show.  Tickets will be on sale soon.  Pre-sale price $5.

We will definitely have a 5pm show and there is a chance we might need to do an 8pm show.  If your girls want to see the Music Video Contest Show they will need to buy a ticket as seats are at a premium.

Pass-off Dates for Glee Team and Glee Girls Plus

Congratulations! Everyone has passed off "Count on Me."

Last week's suggested pass off songs were "Count on Me" and "When Can I See You Again?"

This week's songs are "I Believe I Can Fly" and "I See the Light." In "I See the Light," you will only be singing the chorus.

Make sure you listen to your CDs so you can pass off your songs and keep up with the schedule! Remember, in order to sing any song in a performance, it must be passed off. You are not required to pass off any songs, but you will only be allowed to perform with the group in songs that you have passed off. This is not a punishment; it is to protect you, the student, from being embarrassed onstage trying to sing a song you don't know.

We are so impressed with how well all the girls are doing. Keep it up and let's pass off songs!

Olympic Day Singers

This is only for those that are singing in the Olympic Day Choir at Portola Hills Elementary on April 11th.

Most of the classes have assigned costumes for Olympic Day.  You need to follow your teacher's instructions.  If you don't have an assigned costume - wear your Glee Music black t-shirt.

Mrs. Karen, Ms. Karstin & Penelope will have their black Glee t-shirts on.   My guess is that most will not be able to wear their shirt.

If you didn't get a shirt at last Thursday's rehearsal, just let us know and maybe you can stop by on Thursday before rehearsal to try on one of the t-shirts.

Be sure to email us if you want to stop by, if you don't normally come on Thursday.

Taking Portraits for Star Wall

We are taking portraits for the star wall on Monday.   Pre-Glee we will do pictures on Thursday.   It will just be a headshot so need to worry about an outfit.   Just be ready for a picture and like your shirt.

If you only come on Thursday, let us know and we'll make sure to put you on the list to take pictures on Thursday. 

5 More Rehearsals Until Concert April 26th

Just five more rehearsals until we sing on Saturday, April 26th at the Music Video Solo Concert.   To those who have passed off When Can I See You Again they will be performing.  Grades 4 and up.

We will need everyone to attend some part of the 9-11am rehearsal on the 26th so we can review staging and the songs.

Everyone performs Saturday, May 3rd at Relay for Life at night.

Dress Charges put on Credit Card on File

The dress charges will all run on the credit card on file.   We have ordered all the dresses.

For grades 4-12 the dresses are about $129.  (Glee Team and Glee Girls Plus)

For grades K-3 the dresses are $60.  (Pre-Glee and Glee Girls)

Relay for Life Location and Time

From the Relay for Life website it looks like the event will be in Central Park which looks like it is behind the Bell Tower in Rancho Santa Margarita.
